Description

Smoky, sweet, and spicy—this homemade chipotle barbecue sauce is a bold and flavorful addition to grilled chicken, veggies, and more.

Ingredients

Scale

⅔ cup ketchup

⅓ cup cider vinegar

¼ cup packed brown sugar

¼ cup honey

2 tablespoons finely minced chipotle in adobo

1 teaspoon smoked paprika

1 teaspoon kosher salt

¼ teaspoon freshly cracked black pepper

Instructions

1. Add all the ingredients to a small saucepan. Bring to a boil, then reduce to a simmer and cook on low for 5 minutes, stirring occasionally.

2. Remove from heat and taste, adjust seasoning as desired.

3. Allow to cool at room temperature, then use immediately or refrigerate, covered, for up to 5 days.

4. To a zip-top bag or dish, add 2 pounds chicken with ¾ cups sauce; toss to coat.

5. Cover and marinate in the fridge for at least 30 minutes or up to 8 hours.

6. Discard marinade, grill chicken over medium heat to proper internal temp.

7. Let chicken rest 5–10 minutes before slicing and serving with extra sauce.

Notes

This recipe yields about 1 cup of BBQ sauce.

For a vegan version, use maple syrup instead of honey.

Great for chicken, pork, or roasted vegetables.
